Description

Edward Thomas

Poems. London: Selwyn & Blount, 1917

FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 525 COPIES POSTHUMOUSLY PUBLISHED, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 8vo, original boards, lacking dust-jacket, extremities slightly browned

Inscribed to A. Martin Freeman by Thomas's widow on front free endpaper: "from E. & H[elen]. T., Oct 1917". (The author enlisted in July 1915, aged 37 and was killed in action in April 1917, and Helen has inscribed it as if from both of them.) Freeman was a friend of Thomas, who collaborated with him on The Pocket Book of Poems and Songs for the Open Air published in 1907 (cf. p.viii of the "Note by Compiler" in that book). A very good copy.
