Inscribed by the poet's widow to James Guthrie: "E. & H[elen]. T, Oct 1920". (The author enlisted in July 1915, aged 37 and was killed in action on April 1917, and Helen has inscribed it as if from both of them.) Guthrie was the proprietor of the Pear Tree Press, and subsequently published Thomas's Six Poems (1927), These Things the Poets Said (1935) and To the Memory of Edward Thomas (1937). The book is further inscribed from James to his son Stuart Guthrie "with love from Daddy Dec 7, 1920". A penny postcard, postmarked July 28, 1939, from James to Stuart is laid-in.
