A Young Teacher

signed with monogram and dated 61 lower left

oil on canvas

Unframed: 61 by 51cm., 24 by 20in.

Framed: 83 by 73.5cm., 32¾ by 29in.

The canvas has been strip lined to re-enforce the edges and the canvas is providing a stable support to the paint surface. There is craquelure visible. Examination under ultra-violet light reveals some pigments fluorescing to the mouth and jawline of the lady's face although this may be the hand of the artist. There is a small area of retouching to the left of her hair, and some very minor scattered spots to the lower right corner and two thin vertical lines, one to the left of the book and one below it. There is some surface dirt and the work would likely benefit from a clean.
