Fourth edition, 8vo (198 x 132mm.), engraved throughout with title, tables of roads, towns and maps, calf gilt, spine in compartments with raised bands gilt, slight foxing, upper cover becoming detached, foot of spine slightly worn, rubbed


The fourth edition of John Owen's reproduction of Ogilby's topographical survey of England and Wales. The numerous maps within were engraved by Emanuel Bowen, who served as royal mapmaker under both George II of Britain and Louis XV of France. In four sections, over 273 pages, cities and towns and their "antiquity, charters, privileges, trade and rarities" (title page) are investigated, followed accounts of the arms and titles of the Peers, Bishoprics and Deanaries, and Universities.
