Deux vases de fleurs

signed MArc Chagall (lower right)

gouache, watercolour, pencil, coloured pencil and pastel on card

61 by 80cm., 24 by 31½in.

Framed: 102 by 121cm., 40 by 47⅝in.

Executed in 1981.

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by the Comité Chagall.

Executed on cream wove card, not laid down and held in place with photo corners at all four corners. The sheet is slightly undulating. All four corners are fraying and creasing slightly. There are further faint creases to the sheet, most notably to the lower right edge and in the upper right of the composition. There are fine lines of craquelure to the areas of impasto in places. The sheet is time-stained and there is mount staining along the left, right and lower edges. Minor accretions and spots of foxing are visible in places. There is a small brown media stain above the yellow bouquet. This work is in overall very good condition.
