Circle of Jean-Baptiste Oudry

Still life of game on a marble ledge with an elaborate vase, a window and landscape beyond

oil on canvas

canvas: 50 by 35½in.; 127 by 90.1 cm.

framed: 58½ by 44 in.; 148.6 by 111.8 cm.

Anonymous sale, Paris, Ader Tajan, 17 March 1987, lot 170 (as Jean-Baptiste Oudry);
There acquired.

The composition of this hunting still life seems to be modeled after Oudry's Allegory of Water, which, along with allegories of the other three elements, was painted by Oudry as an overdoor piece in 1719 and remained in his collection until 1740, when the set was acquired for the Royal Palace, Stockholm (inv. NM 868).1
