In the age of the Quartz Crisis, Audemars Piguet was saved by the invention of the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar. The Reference 5548 was powered by the caliber cal. 2120/1, a movement that to this day could possibly be one of the most important creations in horological history. Reminiscent of the legendary reference, the current 25654 is infused with a historical and sophisticated perpetual calendar and an avant-garde Royal Oak case designed by the famous Gerald Genta. It is combination of watchmaking excellence.
Only about 420 pieces made in yellow gold. The 39 mm case with its 8.25 mm thickness kept the sleek and slim profile that the “Jumbo” Royal Oak offers, which is very impressive for a complicated movement. The present watch is also a rare early example as shown by a correct Mk II dial, characterized by a larger AP font for the nameplate at 6 o’clock and a lack of leap-year indication.
Balanced and robust, the Quantieme Perpetual has a muscular presence on the wrist thanks to its cutting edge design. Surely one of the most coveted bracelet watches, it is a perfect fit for different occasions ranging from daily use to formal events. Although Audemars Piguet did not have a magic crystal ball and took a huge gamble by creating the QP Royal Oak. Looking back, it is definitely one of the best decisions made.
Consigned by an important private collector, the present watch is preserved in exceptional condition throughout.
