A gold and tortoiseshell boîte à ballon, Adrien-Jean-Maximilien Vachette, Paris, 1786


of circular domed form, the hinged lid elaborately decorated with fine piqué point rosettes and garlands of lilies and other flowers in different coloured golds, the deep mounts chased with bands of leaves and husk swags, the domed base centred with a geometrical piqué point rosette and framed by a zig zag border, maker's mark, charge and discharge marks of Henri Clavel, Paris date letter for 1786, in original green fishskin case,
