A French gilt-bronze mounted brass, tortoiseshell and ebony 'Boulle' marquetry cabinet, late 19th century

in the Louis XIV manner, of breakfront form, the brèche violette marble top above a cupboard door with a pierced ribbon-tied cartouche with a seated figure of Urania, opening to reveal one adjustable shelf, the canted angles headed by winged female caryatids and terminating in lion-paws, on capped toupie feet

123cm. high, 171.5cm. wide, 51cm. deep; 4ft. 3/8 in., 5ft. 7 1/2 in., 1ft. 8 1/8 in.

In overall good restored condition. The marble top with numerous restored breaks and associated fillings, and with minor scratches; but overall it is of good appearance and the restorations do not distract. The ebony and tortoiseshell with minor craquelure and very minor chipping in places, consistent with age. The gilt bronze varying in colour as some regilding. Some brass lifting, although these are secure and not too distracting. Minor chipping and scratches to the edges of the door, as to be expected.

The feet have come off and have been re-secured and have small losses to the top moulding.

Good looking piece of furniture and quality inlays.
