A rare and important pearl-set gold and enamel extending telescope combined with a pocket watch, Moulinié, Bautte & Co, Geneva, circa 1810 


of tubular form, the lens framed by black enamel, a translucent blue enamel collar within gold rims and two pearl-set borders, the sides elaborately enamelled with shaped cartouches of fruit still lives including peaches, plums and grapes on a ground of translucent scarlet enamel over engine-turning, within gold and white enamel border terminating in chased sunflower elements, almond-shaped translucent green enamel ornaments within opaque white border transitioning into pale blue trelliswork, on an opaque black enamel background decorated with elaborate taille d’épargne flower wreaths incorporating pansies, roses, tulips, sunflowers and vine leaves, grapes and berries in vibrant opaque and translucent colours, surrounded by leafy paillon foliage, framed by split-pearl frame to each side, the front lens set with a detachable pocket watch with white enamel dial with Roman numerals within a border of split pearls, maker’s mark in a vertical lozenge, serial no. 4771
