A gold and enamel snuff box, Paris, 19th century


of oblong oval form, the lid later set with an enamel plaque painted with an allegory of geometry looking at a ground plan presented by two putti, within gold engraved interlaced border, on a dark blue translucent basse-taille enamel ground decorated with flower branches, the sides decorated with circular cartouches of allegories in gold frames between interlaced blue basse-taille enamel laurel wreaths on a reeded ground, below a border of stylised engraved Greek key pattern alternating with leaves, the base similarly decorated within polished gold bead border and centred with a basse-taille sunflower within entrelac-de-rubans frame, French prestige marks including maker’s mark, charge and discharge mark of Prevost, Paris date letter

Scratches to enamel on base, small losses to enamel to sides, some discolouration to restored enamel rim to bottom part of the sides along the lid, discolouration to blue enamel on the right side of the lid, small chip to enamel plaque to about 4 o’clock.
