Shaped-oval form with gadrooned borders, the covers engraved with a coat-of-arms,

38.5cm., 15in. long 5000gr, 160oz

The arms are those of Curzon, Barons Scarsdale of Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire, for Nathaniel Curzon, 2nd Baron Scarsdale (16 September 1751 – 25 January 1837), who succeeded to the title upon the death of his father, also Nathaniel. Between 1775 and 1784 he was M.P. for Derbyshire. He was married on 11 August 1777 to Sophia Susanna (d. 1782), daughter of Edward Noel, 1st Viscount Wentworth of Wellesborough. By whom he had three children, including his heir, Nathaniel Curzon, 3rd Baron Scarscale (3 January 1781 – 12 November 1856). He married secondly at Hamburg in 1798 Felicite Anne Josephe de Wattines, by whom he had a further ten children.
