A blue and white 'phoenix' ewer
the globular body rising to a tall ribbed cylindrical neck and everted waisted rim, set to one side with a tall loop handle and to the other with a spout and strut, painted in rich cobalt-blue tones around the exterior with a broad band of phoenix in flight above leafy scrolling lotus, all between bands of lotus lappets at the flat base, key-fret and stiff-leaf bands at the neck
Height 29 cm, 11½ in.
The ewer has over-painting encircling the whole of the neck and rim from the bottom edge of the key-fret band upwards, fritting to the edges of the spout and edges of the rim, a 5 x 15mm., area of misfiring to the top of the loop handle.
