Description

Mercurio geografico

La guida del Mercurio geografico per tutte le parti del mondo. [Rome]: Calcografia camerale, 1741

2 volumes, folio (458 x 290mm.), letterpress title-page, 112+77 double-page engraved maps (2 folding) with outline colour, early nineteenth-century half navy leather over marbled boards, some foxing or browning, a few wormholes, bindings worn at edges with a few tears to covers

A composite atlas containing maps from the De Rossi printshop between the 1680s and 1720s; for an earlier edition, see lot 126. The first volume here contains maps of parts of Europe, and the second volume contains mostly detailed maps of Italy along with general maps of other parts of the world.

The Calcografia camerale was established with the stock of the De Rossi printshop, in around 1738. Copies of this edition are also recorded with the engraved titles from the earlier editions.
