Description

John Heaviside Clark

View of London from the Adelphi. London: Samuel Leigh, circa. 1829

Aquatint panorama (162 x 18cm.), six sections, some creasing at edges

This panorama was issued as well as the earlier 'Panorama of the Thames, from London to Richmond', from c. 1824 by Samuel Leigh. The Adelphi terrace was built by Robert Adam in the mid eighteenth century as part of the Adelphi Buildings, and offered an exceptional 180 degree panorama of London, including St Paul's, Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge, as well as the smoking factories in Lambeth and Southwark.
