A very rare Belgian tortoiseshell brisé fan, the leaf painted by Félicien Rops, circa 1880

finely painted with watercolour on vellum with a scene of a troubadour and a lady and a couple within scrolling foliage and flowers, a flower wreath with princely monogram at the centre, a coat-of-arms (possibly Wittelsbach) at the right side and signed Felicien Rops at the lower left side, the guard originally probably mounted (with a jewelled monogram?)
