Oil on panel, in a faux maple wood veneered frame in good condition

The oak panel is well preserved; it is flat and evenly chamfered all round.

A neat central horizontal join is visible to the reverse, and manifest to the paint layer. A small 7cm long horizontal fracture can be detected to the right hand edge.

The paint layer is stable and secure and in a very well preserved state.

Under u-v light a small scattering of retouchings can be seen to the sky , upper left, to mitigate mostly horizontal wood grain. Further restoration can be detected along a small paint fracture in the foreground and to strengthen thin paint around the cows and the herder in the foreground to the lower right.

Original paint texture is well preserved and raised impasted highlights are intact.

Chromatic values are maintained and the removal of residual discoloured varnish in the interstices of the paint would improve overall tonality.

The painting presents well.
