Description

Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Felix

Sonate für das Piano-Forte componirt von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Berlin: Laue, [1826]

FIRST EDITION, 25 pages, oblong folio (25.5 x 33.7cm), lithographed title, engraved music, plate number 69, price erased, pencil initials "B. R." to title, and below this, a pencil annotation apparently in the hand of Ernst Rudorff ("Wahrscheinlich Geschenk F. M. ? an Betty Pistor"), publisher's blind stamp to title, unbound, dust-staining to outer pages

A fine association item, apparently initialled by Betty Rudorff (1808-1887), née Pistor, the mother of the Berlin pianist and teacher Ernst Rudorff, and an early sweetheart of the composer. As the pencil note on the title, apparently in Rudorff's hand, indicates, this copy was probably presented to Betty Pistor by Mendelssohn himself.
