The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This work has an old lining, which is nicely stabilizing the paint layer. The paint layer is clean and varnished. Retouches are visible under ultraviolet light in the darker colors of the buildings, in the canal against the palazzo on the far left, and in the center and right side of the bottom edge. The lighter colors of the figures and architecture are well preserved. The sky shows numerous detailed retouches throughout, indicating consistent abrasion. The retouches are very well applied, and the work should be hung in its current state.
