Decorations:

both: signed and inscribed lower center: W. Bouguereau 3, rue Carnot

both: oil, gouache, gold paint and black chalk on canvas.

both: canvas overall: 34 1/4 by 12 3/4 in.; 87 by 32.3 cm.

both: framed: 36 ½ by 15 1/8 in.; 92.7 by 38.4 cm.

The first:

Unlined, canvas is slightly wavy. In top panel, faint, curved line of scuffing through the architectural details of top panel, pin dots of loss to the blue background revealing the gold underpainting. In central panel, faint craquelure visible in center of the composition. In bottom segment, pin-dot of loss at lower right corner. When work is unframed the top stretcher bar mark is faintly visible, the signature and inscription are visible at lower center below the bottom panel, and each panel has a broader, visible red border and thin decorative lines connecting the top and middle panels. Under UV: Varnish is somewhat difficult to read through. In central panel, inpainting to address frame abrasion along right edge and a spot in the lower left edge. In lower panel, inpainting to address frame abrasion along bottom edge and thin line along right edge.

The second:

Unlined, canvas is slightly wavy. In top panel, pin-dots of loss to blue background reveals the gold underpainting. In central panel, spot of loss in sky at upper center. As with the first, when the work is unframed the signature and inscription are visible at lower center of the lower panel as is a faint inscription L 40 H 1.5 (?) at upper left, and each panel has a broader, visible red border with additional decoration connecting the top and middle panels. Under UV: Varnish slightly hard to read through but no inpainting apparent.
