St. Cecilia playing the violin

oil on canvas

canvas: 38 by 29 ¼ in.; 96.5 by 74.3 cm.

framed: 44 ½ by 36 in.; 113 by 91.4 cm.

The canvas is lined with a clear plastic material and is stable on its stretcher. The image reads very well beneath clear varnish with prominent chiaroscuro. A horizontal scratch about one inch long at the figure's belt is visible but not distracting. Under UV inspection, fine lines of retouching are visible throughout, mostly to address craquelure, and mostly concentrated on the black background. A horizontal repair has been retouched on her proper left arm. The retouching has been well applied and the painting can hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved ebonized wood frame with gilt inner and outer liners.
