Handwritten on the reverse by Dao Van Ty, to whom Le Pho gave this work as a wedding present in the 1930s.

Dao Van Ty was a Vietnamese entomologist, who graduated in France, and was a friend of the artist.


This work was executed either in 1931, during the artist's first visit to France for the Colonial Exhibition, or around 1937, when the artist settled permanently in France.
