La Tente sur la plage

signed Marie Laurencin and dated 49 (upper right); stamped M.L. (lower right)

oil on panel

21.8 by 27.1 cm., 8⅝ by 10⅝in.

Framed: 38.5 by 43cm., 15⅛ by 16⅞in.

Painted in 1949.

The panel is sound and UV inspection does not reveal any evidence of retouching. There is a slightly discoloured varnish and there is some wear and small nicks (some of which are inherent to the panel) to parts of the extreme edges, the most prominent of which is a small loss to the panel to the right part of the extreme lower edge. There is what appears to be a small paper remnant to the upper part of the right edge. There is an inky fingerprint to the centre of the upper left quadrant, which very likely occurred as a result of the artist's working process. This work is in overall very good condition.
