Deux colombes
signed Marie Laurencin (lower left)
oil on canvas
36.7 by 45.6cm., 14½ by 18in.
Framed: 55 by 64cm., 21⅝ by 25¼in.
The canvas is lined and the edges are taped. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to the lower dove, including an intermittent diagonal line of retouching which corresponds to a previously repaired tear which has caused a rectangular deformation in the lower half of the composition which is only visible in raking light; there are a few small areas of retouching elsewhere in the composition. There are some fine lines of craquelure and a few tiny paint losses in places. There are some scattered fly spots. This work is in overall good condition.
