The present piece is a reference 16528: a striking yellow gold Zenith Daytona. What is particularly important to note are the miniscule details of the watch—details that collectively enhance the collectability and favorability of the example at hand. Over the span of the 16528’s production lifeline, the series had developed a myriad of dial variations. Of those variations, perhaps the most iconic, recognizable, and desirable one is the MK 1 dial. Better known as the “floating dial,” this variation features five lines with the fifth and final line reading “Cosmograph” placed separately from the others, closer to the hand stack. This present watch featuring the floating dial is part of the R-series, the earliest reference in the Rolex Daytona 16528 timeline. In addition to the floating Cosmograph signature, one may also notice the inverted 6 showcased in the subdial by 6 o’clock—yet another tell-tale indicator of an early, MK 1 dial. By these details, it may well be inferred that this is not only the first dial produced for this watch, but also that the dial matches the case on this piece—an extremely valuable factor for collectors everywhere.
