of flattened pear shape, painted with a lady in a kimono holding a fan and a robed gentleman with a katana sword in his left hand, among raised gilt trees and foliage, the reverse with birds in branches, between brightly-coloured dentil-pattern borders, the handles simulating lacquer, with silvered metal rims and supported by rectangular gilt-metal bases each inset with a porcelain panel painted with flowers and insect
