Two rare kesi 'dragon' chair's covers

Late Ming - early Qing dynasty, 17th century


each vividly woven on a orange-red kesi ground, the upper section with a full-faced five-clawed dragon encircling a longevity symbol shou and holding a 'flaming pearl', writhing among bats between swirling clouds above and a tumultuous sea below, the lower register with a large lotus enclosed in a strap-panel set above a crane standing on rocks surging from a churning sea
