A russet jade ‘double face’ pendant Neolithic period, Hongshan culture | 新石器時代 紅山文化雙人面紋玉珮

Two related double-face pendants are illustrated in Angus Forsyth & Brian McElney, Jades from China, The Museum of East Asian Art, Bath, 1994, cat. nos 4 and 5, the former from the Peony Collection, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29^th November 2019, lot 717, the latter from the Museum’s collection, which also owns a single mask pendant, illustrated cat. no. 6. Compare also a related single face published in Wu Hung & Brian Morgan, Chinese Jades from the Mu-Fei Collection, Bluett & Sons, London, 1990, no. 3, and fig. 4, where it is compared with a related piece in a private collection, fig. 5, both tentatively attributed to the Hongshan culture. A related single face pendant excavated from the Dawenkou type site in Teng county, Shandong and now in the Teng County Museum, is illustrated in Mou Yongkang & Yun Xizheng, eds, Zhongguo yuqi quanji [Complete series on Chinese jades], vol. 1, Shijiazhuang, 1993, pl. 36.

比較兩例，圖見霍璽及麥雅理，《Jades from China》，東亞藝術博物館，巴斯，1994年，編號 4及5，前者屬牡丹堂藏，售於香港蘇富比2019年11月29日，編號717，後者則乃該館收藏。東亞藝術博物館並藏一單面珮，編號6。另見一單面珮例，載於巫鴻及 Brian Morgan，《木扉珍藏玉器》，Bluett & Sons，倫敦，1990年，編號3，圖4，作者將該例與另一私人收藏作例比較，圖5，兩者均暫且定為紅山之物。山東滕縣大汶口文化遺址曾出土一單面例，現藏滕縣博物館，載於牟永抗、雲希正，《中國玉器全集》，卷1，石家莊，1993年，圖版36。
