FIRST EDITION. An extensive historical work on the progressive nature of ancient civilisations which was much admired by Edward Gibbon. It is arranged in three sections of biblical history, from the Flood to the end of the Babylonian Captivity in 539 BC. At the end of the third volume is a section of extracts from Chinese historians by Michel-Ange-André le Roux Deshauterayes, Orientalist and professor of Arabic.
