ebony

incised A Noll

3 x 7 ½ x 5 ⅛ in. (7.6 x 19 x 13.2 cm)

Overall in very good condition. The wooden surfaces range from dark chocolate brown to dark ebony, and display highly contrasted grain and carved decorations to the base.

The ebony presents with scattered and minor surface scratches and minute abrasions, some possibly inherent to the making. The cover with a small minute chip to one corner measuring approximately 1/8 in. The wooden surfaces of the base present with fine hairline cracks throughout, all of which are stable and not visually distracting. Two hairlines on the base are slightly more pronounced, one to the interior of the base and the other running along the underside of the base and along the two side edges of the piece. The interior with very light surface soiling concentrated to the edges as consistent with age and gentle use.
