patinated bronze, suede upholstery

19 ¼ x 43 ¼ x 18 ¾ in. (48.8 x 109.8 x 47.6 cm)

Overall in very good condition. This supremely elegant work by Diego Giacometti presents with highly textural bronze surfaces and wonderful sculptural presence overall. The bronze surfaces present with irregularities which are inherent to the making and characteristic of the artist’s practice. When viewed firsthand, the patina displays subtle hints of olive green and brown which enhance the artistry of the work. The patina is richer and deeper in its depth of color than seen in the catalogue illustrations which were captured in raking sunlight. The frame of the seat and raised bronze elements throughout with some discoloration and rubbing to the patina consistent with age and revealing a lustrous bronze undersurface. The bronze with evidence of very minimal oxidation and small verdigris spots concentrated to the recessed areas. The later suede cushion is in excellent condition overall. A rare bench model by Diego Giacometti, emblematic of his superior abilities in creating highly refined and complex forms in bronze.
