Nicknamed the Grand Calatrava Etanche, reference 565 was the first large waterproof wristwatch produced by Patek Philippe. When the model was launched in 1938, the 35 mm diameter was considered very substantial. The two part case with protective cap was made by Taubert, the premier company producing waterproof cases since the end of the 19th century. Interestingly, Taubert was also the case maker for other important Patek Philippe models.

To the best of our knowledge, fewer than 30 pieces were produced in pink gold. A fraction of those examples feature a pink gold dial, as confirmed by Patek Philippe's Extract from the Archives, making the present lot a particularly rare find in the market today.
