The scene of a painter decorating an oval plaque of dish is derived from the Schulz-Codex, sheet 2, whilst the three figure on the stand are adapted from a scene on the lower right of sheet 17.  The scene to the other side of the bowl is a variation on figures from the top left of sheet 15 and also uses figures which are similar to an engraving by Höroldt dated 1726, see various authors, "Exotische Welten Der Schulz-Codex und das Frühe Meissner Porzellan", exhibition catalogue, 2010, p. 214.

The mark to the cover for the Augsburg silversmith, Paul Solanier suggests that this bowl was mounted prior to his death in 1724, the town mark also corresponds with the period 1724-8.  This early form of broth bowl has several variations, see Bursche, S., Meissen Steinzeug and Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin, Berlin, 1980, pp. 157-160, cat. nos. 117 and 118 for two Augsburg-decorated examples of related form.  For a variation of the form decorated in the factory see Beck, C.H., Meißner Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts Die Stiftung Ernst Schneider in Schloß Lustheim, Basel, 2004, pp. 82-3, cat. no. 12.
