of slightly waisted rectangular outline, each tortoiseshell box decorated with an allegory of one of the four seasons in finely engraved silver inlay work, each lid applied with a dial revealing a numeral below a second windowed dial above, centred by club, heart, diamond or spade, each containing twenty oblong, ten circular and five rectangular counters with the same symbol; the outer case of marquetry wood, velvet-lined interior with fitted compartments, with key
