oil on canvas, unframed

unframed: 15.5 x 12.6 cm.; 6 1/8 x 5 in.

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is slightly dirty, and the varnish is relatively clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light concentrated areas of retouching in the background above the sitter's head and in one or two areas in his sleeve, with smaller spots of retouching in his chest, shoulder, hair and scattered around his mouth. Notwithstanding these interventions, the painting is in overall good condition.
