unframed: 70.2 x 105 cm.; 27 5/8 x 41 3/8 in.

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish slightly discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals minor areas of retouching through the foreground, a couple of small areas of retouching in a the lower arches of the Colosseum, and some small spots scattered in the sky, mainly upper left, as well as small retouchings around the margins. The painting is in overall good condition, bright and legible.
