A SILVER-GILT SNUFF BOX WITH TIMEPIECE, THE DIAL WITH FALSE PENDULUM

 [銀鎏金鼻煙壺連時計，備仿鐘擺錶盤，年份約1740]

• Movement: gilded, verge escapement, balance with mock pendulum between dial and dial plate, turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain, backplate decoratively engraved with scrolling foliage and signed Johann Georg Gigel, Brin

• Dial: silver gilt champlevé, Roman numerals with half hour divisions between and to the ring beneath, outer Arabic minute ring, the dial bordered by scrolling flowers, foliage and fantastical birds, aperture for mock pendulum, further apertures for regulation and hand setting, polished banner signed Brin

•Case: silver gilt, chased and engraved to front and back with scenes from the story of Diana, the borders further chased and engraved with animals including hunting dogs, a hare, fox, pheasant, the lids opening to one side to reveal the timepiece, to the other a plain compartment for snuff
