Jade fittings of this type appear to be extremely rare, although a closely related fitting is recorded in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, published on the museum's website, acc. no. 001154-N000000000. According to the museum, this type of fitting was used to secure belt buckles. A group of jade rings from the Eastern Zhou dynasty, carved with the same 'rope twist' pattern but without the central bar, are known from museum and private collections, such as six rings varying in size and density of the pattern, excavated from a late Spring and Autumn period tomb in Baoji, Shaanxi province, published in Liu Yunhui, Shaanxi chutu dongzhou yuqi [Eastern Zhou jades excavated from Shaanxi], Taipei, 2006, pls. BY29-BY34; and another from the Winthrop Collection, now in the Harvard Art Museum, Cambridge, attributed to late Eastern Zhou period, 400-300 BC, illustrated in Jenny F. So, Early Chinese Jades in the Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge, 2019, pl. 33, where the author suggests that the dense pattern on these rings might have been executed by a compound machine.
