Overall in very good condition. An incredibly dynamic and rare form by François-Xavier Lalanne, the Canard-Bateau (Duck-Boat) named Le Métaphore includes playful elements and a stunning iron surface in well-preserved condition. The iron surfaces present with extremely minor surface irregularities, dynamic scattered thatching and minute pinholes inherent to the making. The iron with very fine surface scratches throughout consistent with gentle handling and not visually distracting. The iron surfaces present with subtle and nuanced color variations throughout ranging from gold to silver. The underside of the Canard and the four bolts supporting the sculpture also display copper hues which are likely inherent to the making. The bottom of the bolts with occasional and small red paint marks, not visually distracting. The sculpture includes movable elements under the Canard’s tail, which include a swiveling flag, rudder and two small propellers on either side. While highly sculptural and decorative, the piece can also be used as an open container or shelving unit. The sculpture is attached to an ebonized wood surface in excellent condition with very fine surface scratches throughout.
