dated, signed and titled 1866 James Webb/ Heidelberg lower right

oil on canvas

Unframed: 61 by 107cm., 24 by 42in.

Framed: 76 by 122cm., 30 by 48in.

This picture is lined and the lining is providing a stable structural support. There is a very faint craquelure pattern in the sky, noticeable upon close inspection. The paint surface is a little dirty and may benefit from a light clean.

UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT

There are sweeping retouchings in the sky, probably to infill craquelure. There are also small, localised retouchings in the water and the foreground which appear to be cosmetic.
