Four Venetian Views
one signed C. Grubacs lower left; one signed Grubacs lower left
each oil on canvas
Unframed, each: 21 by 27cm., 8¼ by 10¾in. (4)
Framed, each: 30 by 35cm., 11¾ by 13¾in.
Each canvas is relined (one with a wax lining visible on the reverse). There is a pattern of hairline craquelure. Under ultra-violet light the old varnish layers fluoresce evenly and opaquely, making the surface difficult to read; in each work relatively minor signs of old retouching appear to be visible in the sky; there may be somewhat more strengthening in the sky than is clearly visible. The four works are in good overall condition and their appearance could be enhanced if desired with a surface clean.
