8vo, FIRST EDITION [one of 830 copies of which this is one of 800 copies on handmade paper], original white and cinnamon cloth, lettering in gilt, collector's chemise and purple morocco-backed slipcase, some light spotting and browning, cloth slightly bubbled, head and foot of spine slightly bumped


The first edition of Wilde's famous poem appeared on 13 February 1898. It was enthusiastically reviewed ('...a moving piece of work...' from the Daily Telegraph, for example).
