copper, champlevé enamel
impressed JEAN GOULDEN CVIII, dated 30 and with the artist's mark
3/4 x 4 3/4 x 2 1/2 in. (1.9 x 12 x 6.3 cm)
Overall in very good condition. This lot is a stunning example by the artist which displays an outstanding graphic composition and radiant coloration to the enamel. The copper surface presents with surface scratches and scuffing throughout. The underside and interior of the case with very light areas of discoloration and minimal oxidation concentrated to the edges and corners. The turquoise and royal blue enamels overall retain their bright colors. The interior of the lid and interior of the case is applied with a rich dark blue enamel, which presents with a slightly irregular application and surface irregularities which are inherent to production and to the artist’s practice. The enameled surfaces with very light surface scratches concentrated to the lid and consistent with gentle use. A beautiful cigarette case which beautifully combines shades of blue and copper.
