Overall in very good condition. The silver surfaces have recently been polished by a professional conservator and appear slightly cleaner and brighter than pictured in the catalogue illustration. The silver surfaces present with surface scratches and scuffing throughout as well as scattered areas of light oxidation concentrated to the edges, the recessed areas and the interior of the case. The edges of the box present with occasional and minute indentations to the silver which are not visible unless closely inspected. The enamel retains its bright colors, which range from blue-green and turquoise to navy blue and black. The enamel surfaces present with very slightly irregular application and surface irregularities which are inherent to production and to the artist’s practice. The black enameled areas with extremely minor evidence of discoloration which is not visually distracting and consistent with age. A dazzling piece characterized by its sleek form and Goulden’s masterful combination of blues.
