Under UV light, there is inpainting to the aforementioned stretcher bar mark, as well as a few small scattered additional spots of retouching. There is also a finely applied line of retouching to address a hairline scratch that extends across the top of the work and through the figure's wing.

Luis Falero was born in Granada, trained in Paris as a portraitist and settled in London in the 1880s, where he developed a fascination for painting highly detailed renderings of the female nude. His hyper-realist style often set women in fantastical, mythological, or astronomical settings.
