Circular, the lid inset with a miniature of a wooded landscape with figures, attributed to Carl Ludwig Hackert, in a gold bezel, apparently unmarked; together with a gold-mounted tortoiseshell snuff box, the lid inset with a miniature of the chapel of William Tell, Swiss School, early 19th century, apparently unmarked

Carl Ludwig Hackert (1740–1796) was the younger brother of the more famous artist and friend of Goethe, Jakob Philipp Hackert (1737–1807). Carl, like his brother Jakob, painted Italian topography, however, he is more noted for his views of Switzerland.
