ITALIAN, CIRCA 1800, AFTER THE ANTIQUE | BUST OF MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO (106-43 BCE)
ITALIAN, CIRCA 1800
AFTER THE ANTIQUE
BUST OF MARCUS TULLIUS CICERO (106-43 BCE)
marble, on a marble socle
68cm., 26¾in. overall
Overall the condition of the marble is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The marble is naturally a brownish colour. There is some slight veining to the marble, consistent with the material, notably a slightly open but stable vein (or fissure) running diagonally from the neck through the drapery in the proper left side. There are also a few small naturally occurring inclusions. There are a few small chips, notably to the edge of the truncation, and to the tile above the socle. Some filling material is slightly visible where the bust joins the socle. There are a few minor abrasions to the socle. There is a small, possibly original, indentation to the top of the head.
