RELIEF WITH THE DORMITION OF THE VIRGIN

oak

70 by 50cm., 28 by 19⅝in.

Condition Report

Overall the condition of the wood is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is evidence of minor non-active worming, in particular at the left side of the relief. There are some minor losses to the relief at the bottom edges. The rattle held by the saint next to the Virgin is possibly replaced and the finial in the Virgin's hand is reattached with glue residue. There are a number of small losses including to the fingers of the saint with his back to the viewer and to much of the hair of the bearded saint behind the bedstead, a section of whose hair is a later replacement. There is minor stable splitting to the oak, consistent with the material, particularly at the bottom.
