folio (320 x 210mm.), initials elegantly supplied in red and blue, red and blue paraphs, without final blank leaf, contemporary German stamped calf over wooden boards, edges gilt and gauffered at a later date, first leaf repaired at foot, rebacked, a few repairs to edges of boards, new endpapers


A fine copy with an interesting early provenance.

Ludovicus Ber (Baer, or Ursinus, 1479-1554) of Basel, socius of the Sorbonne, early inscription on title-page and some annotations in the text; Domus S. Antonii [--] 1750, partially erased inscription; Canons Regular of Marbach, inscription on title-page


Ber was a friend of Erasmus and Professor of Theology and rector of the university at Basel until 1529 when, on the election of the reform party, he moved to Freiburg. He bequeathed much of his library to the university there.
