The Contemporary Art sales in Paris concluded on Wednesday with an outstanding total of €32 million, the highest total ever recorded for a Contemporary Art sale at Sotheby's in Paris. With participants from 16 countries, Sotheby's confirms its leadership on the Contemporary Art market in France.
Five paintings sold for over €1 million, including Pierre Soulages, Peintures 162 x 130 cm, 14 avril 1962, which soared to €6.1 million, doubling its high estimate, setting the new world record for the artist. Zao Wou-Ki's 19.03.62 achieved the second highest price of the sale with €3,645,000.
AUCTION DETAILS
The Contemporary Art Evening Sale will offer a strong selection of abstract works, led by a spectacular Soulages. Highlights will also include masterpieces by Zao Wou-Ki, Jean Dubuffet and Nicolas de Staël as well as a strong line-up of more contemporary pieces by Anselm Kiefer, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami and Gilbert & George amongst others.
